Gum (Periodontal) Therapy

What is Periodontal Disease

Periodontal therapy is usually needed if there is bone loss around the teeth, which can be due to a buildup of calculus below the gum level.

Usually, this disease is painless but indications include red, swollen, and bleeding gums. If periodontal disease persists, bone loss and eventual tooth loss will occur. There are also links of untreated periodontal disorders and poor cardiovascular health.

Gum Disease Treatment in Maryland Heights

The most common way to treat this is known as a deep cleaning and usually takes multiple appointments to treat the whole mouth. With regular cleanings, gum disease can be prevented and/or stopped if it is already present. Dr. Birk and Westport Dental are committed to getting every patient healthy and then keeping them healthy the rest of their life.
